Norwegian Cruise Line has confirmed the option for two more Leonardo-class cruise ships with the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The new generation NCL ships will be delivered in 2026 and 2027.
Two More Leonardo Ships on Order
The two future vessels were part of an option agreement with Fincantieri which was first announced back in 2017. The ships will be the fifth and sixth in the class so we are looking way ahead and still have the very first ship in the class to look forward to in 2022.
The Leonardo class ships will be 140,000 gross tons and will have a guest capacity of around 3,300. The design will be totally new not like previous NCL ships with energy efficiency and environmentally friendly innovations. Further details about the new class will be revealed in the coming months by the cruise line.
Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, said:
“These orders extend our disciplined and measured newbuild program and strong growth trajectory well into the future and will further drive long-term returns for our shareholders.”
“Our six ship Leonardo Class fleet will allow us to broaden our deployment into strong performing and mature unserved and underserved markets and offer new experiences to our guests.”
So at the moment, there is a total of six Leonardo-class ships on order including today’s options for two more. The cruise line will also welcome the final Breakaway-Plus class cruise ship named Norwegian Ecore in the fall of 2019.

When the first Leonardo class ship is completed in 2022 there will be new innovations and onboard features not seen in the industry before. We’ll be following any new developments on this including the construction of these new ships.
